This work, “Behind a Wet Window,” speaks of the deceptive sensation created by an image. It draws inspiration from nights spent at sea after long years of sailing, where, behind hatches wet from tropical rains, the author would retreat to her cabin to observe scenes that seemed to have sprung from an adventure story. Beautiful to behold, they made one believe they were in a dreamlike paradise, yet as cold and turbulent as finding oneself on the ocean in the midst of a thunderous, uncontrolled storm, where, no matter how many anchors secure the ship, it moves and creaks as if at any moment it might shatter into a thousand pieces. Life at sea, for those who have not experienced it or have only sailed on calm waters, is alluring, but every seasoned sailor knows that behind that wet window, what is attractive can become destructive.
Esta obra, “Tras un cristal mojado” habla de la falsa sensación que crea una imagen. Se inspira en las noches de vida a bordo tras largos años de navegación, donde tras escotillas mojadas por las lluvias tropicales, la autora se refugiaba en su camarote para observar imágenes que parecían salir de una historia de aventuras. Hermosas de ver y hacer creer que estabas en un paraíso de ensueño pero, tan frías y movidas como es encontrarse el océano en mitad de una tormenta atronadora y descontrolada, donde por muchas anclas que amarren el barco, este se mueve y cruje como si en cualquier momento fuera a partirse en miles de pedazos. La vida a bordo para los que no la han conocido o tan solo han navegado en mares de calma, es atractiva pero, todo experimentado marinero sabe que tras ese cristal mojado, lo atractivo puede convertirse en destructivo.
